Euregional Fablab
09.2010 – 08.2011
The project “Euregional Fablab” researches the development of a Euregional Fablab together with partners from the Meuse-Rhine regio.
A Fablab (short for “Fabrication” or “Fabulous” Laboratory) is a place for building prototypes and is meant to support the creation of nearly everything.
Previous research has shown that there is a demand for a strong interaction between technology and design in the context of culture projects in public space (especially in smaller cities and landscapes) in the Meuse-Rhine regio. There appears to be a need for interactive set-ups and innovative prototypes. By setting up a Euregional Fablab we want to disclose these set-ups and prototypes for a larger public. We want to create a service that allows innovation in the cultural domain (and beyond) in a budget-friendly way. We also want to research the possibilities of a mobile and modulair laboratory, that can operate location- and contextspecific.
Setting up a Fablab in the Euregio allows local creative talents to stay in the regio and continue their innovative work here. Collaborating with Euregional partners, such as Hogeschool Zuyd (the Netherlands) and Fachhochschule Aachen (Germany), will lead to (an improvement of) an exchange of knowledge between them.
