CROSS-over (2)

Until 2011

The project “CROSS-over (2)” researches alternative research practices in arts, science, engineering and design that are inspired by participatory new media cultures. Specifically, it focusses on their use of cross-over practice and critical tools in the process of creating an artefact and/or an experience.

The research project is a follow-up study of the publication Cross-Over that mapped out the cross-disciplinairy new media practices in Belgium. In this second publication we want to zoom more closely into practices and methods put forward by creative new media cultures.

The project zooms in on an international series of cases that explore the issues addressed above in a representative way, such as: the program Art&D by the Institute of Broadband Technologies (IBBT), the interdisciplinary research group of the company Alcatel that created the Touchatag toolkit, the interdisciplinary group Blast Theory that creates alternative forms of performance, the design group Unfold and their projects “l’Artisan Electronique” and “Ontwerpbox“, the group the Patching Zone, who uses artistic new media tools for social innovation and the group Constant vzw (more specifically the work “Routes and Routines” that was exhibited in Z33 – house of contemporary art).
