Marjan Sterckx

Marjan Sterckx (1978) has a MA and a Ph.D. in Art History and a degree in Cultural Studies (K.U. Leuven University, BE). She was an intern at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, and at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris. As an assistant of the Fund for Scientific Research-Flanders (FWO), she carried out her Ph.D.-research on women sculptors and the metropolitan public space. After a postdoctoral fellowship at Leuven University (on the representation of public sculpture in photography), she has been a lecturer in art history at the Media and Design Academy in Genk and at the Arts-departement of PHL University College in Hasselt. Since Oct. 2009 she combines the latter with a professorship in 19th-century art history at Ghent University. Her research interests concern (the links between) (19th-century) sculpture, public space, gender and photography.
